Jon Beason still leading the Giants from the sideline

New York Giants middle linebacker Jon Beason is no longer able to help on the field, after being placed on injured reserve earlier this season, but he's still making an impact according to linebackers coach Jim Herrmann.

"He's still with us, and he helps. He's tremendous. He's a great leader," Herrmann said to Giants reporters of Beason, per NJ Advanced Media. "I love him as a person. He's so competitive. Just to have him out there, my eyes might be on this guy over there, and he can watch someone else. It helps.

"The motivation point that he brings, is great for the whole group, the whole defense."

In Beason's absence, the Giants first turned to former undrafted free agent Uani' Unga. After Unga went down with injury, they have turned to veteran journeyman Jasper Brinkley. Despite being with the Giants for such a short period of time, Brinkley has made a major impact in the Giants' last two games. Beason likely deserves some credit for that.

"I think he's doing what he's always done," Herrmann added about Beason. "He's always been a great leader and an example to the younger guys throughout his whole career. He's doing that, just not out on the field (as a player)."
