John Madden: Bruce Arians was 'ready for his chance'
Legendary coach and broadcaster John Madden spoke to the LA Times about a variety of topics over the weekend and one topic that came up was Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians.
Madden said Arians 'reinvented himself' to get his first head coaching position. Arians did not get his first opportunity until he was 60-years old, but never gave up on his dream.
"The Bruce Arians I knew isn't the same Bruce Arians I see now," Madden said. "Some guys never get their chance. He was ready for his chance."
Madden says one of the things he admires about Arians is how he doesn't force his quarterbacks to do certain things. He makes sure the player is on board with the strategy as well.
"You can put something in and force-feed it to a quarterback, but if he doesn't like it and have his heart in it, it's not going to be as good as when he really likes something," Madden explained.
