John Fox: Jay Cutler will have to earn starting QB job

For the life of me, I still don’t understand why the new Chicago Bears front office didn’t just cut quarterback Jay Cutler, but at least they’re not giving him the quarterback keys without some due diligence.
According to a report from John Mullin of CSN Chicago, head coach John Fox says Cutler will have to earn the starting position in an open competition:
“It’s all an open competition,” Fox said Wednesday at the NFL owners meeting. “Obviously you’ve got to start somewhere and my experience in football, really in anything, it’s not where you start a competition; it’s where you finish it.”
That’s all fine and good in theory, but right now Jimmy Clausen looks like Cutler’s best competition. Expect the Bears to use one of their draft picks on a quarterback in next month’s draft.
