Jets re-sign guard Willie Colon to 1-year deal

NEW YORK (AP) The New York Jets have re-signed veteran guard Willie Colon to a one-year contract.

Colon has started every game at right guard for the Jets the past two years after seven seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The deal is for the veteran minimum of $870,000, plus a signing bonus.

The signing Thursday is somewhat of a surprise. New York signed James Carpenter, likely to be the starter at left guard, on Wednesday. Oday Aboushi and Brian Winters have started there the last two years, but figured to compete at right guard this summer. They still might - but with Colon back in the mix.

Colon, who turns 32 in April, has been a strong run blocker throughout his career, but led the Jets with 12 accepted penalties last season.
