Jets' Marshall out, Giants' Cruz expected to play

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 12:24 p.m. ET

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall will sit out the team's preseason game against the Giants, who will have Victor Cruz playing for the first time since 2014.

There was no immediate reason given for Marshall not playing Saturday night and there was no known injury. Marshall was sitting on the Jets' bench in sweats and a long-sleeve T-shirt during pregame warmups. Undrafted rookie Robby Anderson is starting in Marshall's place.

Cruz was limited to six games in 2014 because of a knee injury and then missed all of last season with a calf injury. The 29-year-old Cruz missed the first two preseason games this summer with a groin injury.

Jets running back Matt Forte (hamstring) and defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson (leg) are active and expected to make their preseason debuts. Forte, signed in March after eight seasons in Chicago, tweaked a hamstring while running on his own before training camp. Wilkerson broke his right leg in the Jets' regular-season finale against Buffalo last December.

Other Jets players who will not play include rookie linebacker Jordan Jenkins (calf), wide receiver Quincy Enunwa (concussion) and wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins (groin). Jenkins, a third-round pick, is a projected starter. He was replaced by Mike Catapano against the Giants.

Giants left guard Justin Pugh (shoulder) and rookie starting safety Darian Thompson (shoulder) are among five players not playing. Second-year guard Bobby Hart will start for Pugh, and the Giants hadn't announced a replacement for Thompson.
