Jeff Fisher Fired by the Los Angeles Rams After 4-9 Start

Los Angeles has fired Jeff Fisher after heavy criticism one year into relocation

Jeff Fisher, the all-time losingest coach in NFL history, has been fired by the Los Angeles Rams. After just five seasons in the Rams organization, Fisher was informed Monday afternoon that his services were no longer wanted by the team.

Fisher leaves the organization with a 4-9 record in 2016, and a 31-45-1 record over the course of five seasons.

No interim coach has been named as of yet, although assistant head coach Dave McGinnis and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams have once held the title.

Los Angeles had recently given Fisher a contract extension, but from the start people knew it did not insure job security after this season.

Despite never winning more than seven games with the Rams, Fisher was retained for 2016 to help lead the relocation from St. Louis to Los Angeles. His experience moving the Oilers from Houston to Tennessee, with whom he coached for 17 years, gave him an edge with the Rams.

Following Los Angeles’ 42-14 loss to Atlanta, running back Todd Gurley compared the offense to one run by a “middle school,” and his teammates had appeared to have given up on Fisher.

No clear-cut candidates have emerged as of yet, although finding someone to develop first-overall pick Jared Goff (which in itself looks to be a mistake) would be priority number one.

Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels could fit that bill should he wish to give being a head coach another shot. McDaniels was the Rams offensive coordinator in 2011 after being fired by Denver.

Los Angeles has a very short week to turn things around, as they play in Seattle on Thursday Night Football.
