Jalin Marshall will easily be an x-factor for Jets in 2016

Despite the New York Jets losing their season opener to the Cincinnati Bengals, one bright spot was everything wide receiver Jalin Marshall brings to the table.

Even though the New York Jets lost a real nailbiter of a game to the tune of 23-22 to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1 action, don’t let it bother you too much. After all, there is still a ton of football left to be played as the Jets are on a short week as they prepare for the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football.

One of the bright spots of the game was wide receiver Jalin Marshall who showed signs of brilliance as a kickoff/punt returner. His blazing speed, which was on full display all preseason long, was a welcoming sight to see in a game that actually matters.

Against the Bengals, Marshall on kick return duties totaled 110 yards with a 65-yard long return. On punt return duties, Marshall totaled 11 yards. Clearly, Marshall is exactly what the Jets’ special teams has needed for all these years.

Last year, special teams were flat out abysmal. They couldn’t get any good field positioning, tackle anyone, and forget about actually scoring a touchdown to help the cause. It was embarrassing, to say the least.

At the rate Marshall is going, he’s going to easily be a household name this season and finally make the Jets’ special teams formidable.

Once he gets acclimated to how to be a consistent receiving target on offense, Marshall will be an x-factor all  across the board.

If he can translate his execution on special teams as a wide receiver, one can only imagine the damage he can cause.

It’ll take some time but Marshall will put everything together and truly make a name for himself. When you go undrafted and actually make the final roster of a team, it can motivate you towards greatness.

Considering the Jets have a short week ahead of them, expect to see Marshall continue to get reps to see if he can be a versatile threat on offense. Since he’s able to use his speed to spread things out offensively, it’s only a matter of time before he gets red hot at a time the Jets will absolutely need it.
