Jaguars DT Roy Miller dealing with knee soreness amid return

Jaguars defensive tackle Roy Miller has missed practice all week and may not play in the team's preseason open Friday against the Pittsburgh Steelers as he deals with soreness in his surgically repaired knee.

Miller, who had surgery in January to repair cartilage damage in his left knee, said he's not injured again, but rather that his body needs time to adjust to the physical nature of training camp.

"It's just maintenance," Miller said, via ESPN. "We expected to hit some bumps here and there but it's all just my body just adjusting to the stress that you can't replicate in the offseason. Double teams, contact, there's nothing you can do to replicate that except for do it against other guys. Unfortunately I missed the offseason program with my knee so I'm playing a little catch-up right now. I think I'm further along than I thought I would be or as they expected."

The 28-year-old Miller, who is in his seventh season in the NFL, said he hopes to return to the field soon, but when he does, he knows he'll have to push through some degree of pain as part of the process.

"Hopefully it gets to the point where my body adjusts here really soon and there's no issues," Miller said. "I know at some point when you're working back you've got to go through the phases of pain and working past it and working muscles that you haven't worked in a while, stressing bones that haven't been stressed against each other in a while. It's normal things that you do all the time but when you do it at a high level out here with these guys it changes everything and you've got to learn fast."

In 14 games last season, Miller made 30 tackles and recorded a sack.
