Jaguars, Bradley don't see contract issue as obstacle

Although Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley received word last month he'll be returning to the team in 2016, he'll enter next season in the final year of his contract.

The Jaguars thus far haven't given Bradley contract extension, but this week both he and general manager David Caldwell said they don't believe the coach's long-term status will be an issue in improving the team over the offseason.

After finishing the season 5-11, Jacksonville is once again expected to be active in the free-agent market. Caldwell told reporters Monday he doesn't think what is shaping up to be a make-or-break year for Bradley will scare off potential free agents.

“The only worry is, ‘Do you worry about distraction?’’’ Caldwell said, via the team's official website. “Well, that’s only a distraction if you let it be or if you guys (in the media) make it one.”

While the Jaguars will be looking for free agents in March, in the short-term they're also looking for a new defensive coordinator after dismissing Bob Babich earlier in the week. Like, Caldwell though, Bradley said finding a capable candidate despite an unclear outlook for the coaching staff shouldn't be problem.

“I think this is a pretty appealing place,” Bradley said. "They see Dave and I’s relationship and how (Owner) Shad (Khan) is tied in and they see it over and over again.”
