Jack Del Rio Finishes Fourth In Coach of the Year Voting

Following leading the Oakland Raiders to a 12-4 season, Head Coach Jack Del Rio finished fourth in the Coach of the Year voting.
Oakland Raiders Head Coach Jack Del Rio led his team to a season that exceeded the expectations of many, with an impressive 12-4 record. Unfortunate circumstances that ended the season aside, it was exciting to see the Silver and Black competitive once again.
Del Rio’s decision making, particularly his penchant for bold gambles that paid off, directly contributed to several of the wins. So it’s no surprise that he was up for consideration as the NFL’s Coach of the Year, and his case was quite strong.

But the voters of the Associated Press award thought differently, and Del Rio ended up finishing fourth in the ballot. Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett ended up winning the award, thanks to a 13-3 season. He received 25 of the 50 votes, while Del Rio received just four.
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and Miami’s Adam Gase also both finished ahead of Del Rio, with 14 votes and 6 votes, respectively.
The Raiders and Del Rio have begun talks on an extension, just two years through his four-year deal.
