It's now or never for Jeff Cumberland
New York Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland is an athletic tight end as he stands at 6'4" and 260 pounds while running and 4.45 40-yard dash time. For five seasons the Jets have hoped that Cumberland would have evolved into a dangerous threat in the middle of the field for the offense.
Unfortunately, the Jets' patience with Cumberland could be growing thin. Last season, Cumberland caught 23 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns. Cumberland also played 85 percent of the team's snaps, much more than the 34 percent that rookie Jace Amaro did.
As the Jets and Cumberland enter the 2015 season, New York is hoping that he can hit his potential and be a key factor in improving a dismal offense that ranked 32nd in passing yards per game and 29th in points per game.
If Cumberland doesn't produce in a big way this season, could he lose his job to Amaro? Worse, could he be off the roster by next offseason? Brian Costello of the New York Post answers those very questions as he analyzes Cumberland's past and what it will mean for his future with the Jets.
