Investigation of 49ers' McDonald continues after August arrest; Monday court date canceled

The Santa Clara district attorney tweeted on Friday that the investigation into San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald continues.

A preliminary hearing originally scheduled for Monday has been canceled with no new one set "unless or until charges are filed."

Prosecutors also delayed a scheduled Sept. 15 hearing.

McDonald is out on $25,000 bail after being arrested Aug. 31 on suspicion of domestic violence at his San Jose home, where he was celebrating his 30th birthday with teammates and friends. He has not been charged.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, a police report released last week said that police responded to McDonald's home to investigate an incident that a police spokeswoman told the paper resulted in the woman having "visible injuries." The Sacramento Bee reported that the woman was 10 weeks pregnant and showed police bruises on her arms and neck.

Despite several California politicians calling on the 49ers to bench the lineman because of the allegations, McDonald has played in the first three games of the NFL season and is expected to play against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
