Illness won't stop Combine prospect

Published Feb. 26, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Former Rice University defensive end/linebacker Cheta Ozougwu will work out for NFL teams during the Scouting Combine despite suffering recently from a bad case of food poisoning.

Sources from NFL teams were told that the pass rusher, despite spending two days hospital earlier this week, would still participate in all drills.

Ozougwu, whose playing weight is normally 257-258, weighed in at 247 during his Combine physical.

Ozougwu, according to personnel sources, projects to play outside linebacker at the NFL level. He played mostly defensive end in his college career, but did have limited snaps as a rush outside linebacker this past season.

Ozougwu put together a set of strong performances during East-West Shrine Week practices in January.
