Glazer: NFL will reduce field goal post width at Pro Bowl
The NFL field goal post width has gone unchanged since 1920. That's about to change.
During this year's Pro Bowl, the 18-foot-6 wide goal post will be reduced to just 14 feet, NFL on FOX insider Jay Glazer reported on Sunday.
While the change won't be immediately applied to regular-season action, the competition committee could make it a point of emphasis in the future.
With kickers making extra points at a near-perfect rate, there was dialogue this past offseason about ruling out the play for safety precautions.
Reported on @NFLonFOX that NFL will experiment by narrowing width of goalpost from 18.6 ft to 14 at Pro Bowl. Been same width since 1920!!!

However, the league should be applauded for always trying to enhance the brand and quality of play on the field.
