Shane Vereen has emerged as the New York Giants’ leading rusher this season, but that season has been cut short by a triceps injury that will require surgery.
Vereen had been splitting carries with Rashad Jennings but had gotten the better of the arrangement, gaining 147 rushing yards to Jennings’ 102 on the same amount of carries (31). Vereen, however, had lost a fumble in each of the past two weeks and got hurt in Sunday's loss to the Washington Redskins.
The 27-year-old is in his second year with the Giants after four with the Patriots. He’s never run for more than 400 yards in a season.
