Giants LT Flowers played through ankle injury, undergoes MRI

In his rookie debut, New York Giants left tackle Ereck Flowers graded out with strong grades as a run blocker and poor grades in pass protection, per Pro Football Focus. This was no different than how they graded him in the preseason, only this time, he was playing on a bum ankle.

Flowers injured his ankle during Sunday Night's game when it was rolled up on, but he gutted it through and finished out the game. After a night of rest, Flowers still felt pain in the ankle and he was sent for further testing and an MRI.

“He did injure the ankle early on and he gutted it out and finished the game,” Coughlin said, per the New York Post. “He was limited to a certain extent because of the injury, but I thought he battled away and that’s what we always counted on, that he would battle, and he did.”

The Giants desperately need Flowers to return for the Week 2 matchup against the Falcons. Already thin at offensive tackle after the Will Beatty injury, the Giants would likely be forced to use left guard Justin Pugh or right guard Geoff Schwartz as a stopgap solution in the event of missed time for Flowers.
