Giants left tackle Will Beatty ruled out for season

The New York Giants will keep offensive lineman Will Beatty on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list as his 21-day window to return in 2015 closes later today, and his 2015 season is officially over.

Beatty tore his pectoral muscle during a weight lifting accident back in May, but there was always optimism that he would return for the second half of the 2015 season until now. Beatty has recovered from his pectoral injury, but according to head coach Tom Coughlin, he is dealing with a new injury.

"He has an issue with a rotator cuff on the right side that is going to require surgery," Coughlin said, per NJ Advanced Media. "He's had an issue with that for quite a while.

"On his behalf, he's practiced and worked hard to try to see what he was able to do with it. It's just not going to be something that will allow him to be the player that he can be. That is why the decision. ... He was trying to see what he can do with it. He wore a strap and so on and so forth but it was not enough."

Beatty was the Giants' best offensive lineman in 2014, according to game charting and advanced analytics website Pro Football Focus. In his absence, rookie Ereck Flowers has taken over at left tackle, and he has struggled in pass protection.

Beatty is under contract in 2016, but he carries a massive salary cap hit. The Giants will have to make a tough decision on his future at some point in the coming months.
