Former Cowboy calls Dez Bryant selfish for skipping OTAs

Daryl Johnston, a fullback for the Dallas Cowboys from 1989-1999, doesn’t agree with Dez Bryant’s decision to skip offseason training activities and minicamp while holding out for a new contract.

Johnston appeared on SiriusXM NFL Radio and cited quarterback Tony Romo’s availability as the main reason Bryant should be with the team.

Johnston, who is now an analyst for FOX Sports, continued:

Considering Bryant confirmed his willingness to sit out Week 1 if he and the team fail to reach a long-term contract, the star wideout is being a little selfish.

However, missing OTAs and minicamp like several other big-name players isn’t exactly an eye-opening problem. Bryant and Romo have developed quite the connection during their shared tenure.

While offseason work would likely benefit both players, the duo has still thrived without it. Since 2012, Bryant has averaged 91 receptions for 1,312 yards and 14 touchdowns per season.

Though Bryant is thinking more about himself by refusing to sign the $12.8 million franchise tag and skipping offseason workouts, he’s not being unreasonable, either.
