New England Patriots all-time leading rusher Sam ``Bam'' Cunningham has been voted into the team's hall of fame by its fans.

Cunningham played for the Patriots from 1973 to 1982. During that time, he ran for a franchise-best 5,543 yards on 1,385 carries. He also had 43 rushing touchdowns.

In 1978, Cunningham keyed a Patriots ground attack that combined for 3,165 rushing yards, a single-season NFL record that stands to this day.

The one-time USC star will be inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame on Aug. 12. He beat out this year's two other finalists, center Jon Morris and defensive tackle Houston Antwine.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft called Cunningham an ``old school fullback'' who enjoyed punishing would-be tacklers.
