Fantasy Football Start or Sit Week 5: D/ST of New York Jets

When it comes to Week 5 of Fantasy Football, the defense and special teams of the New York Jets serves as a must sit for their matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The defense of the New York Jets continues to struggle throughout the 2016 season. Now 1-3, the Jets find themselves battling a fearless Pittsburgh Steelers offense that consists of Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, and a recently reinstated Le’Veon Bell. Their fantasy football outlook is not looking good heading into this matchup.

The only upside about the Jets’ defense this season is their defensive line which ranks second best in the league against the run, averaging 70.2 yards per game. However, Pittsburgh has a dangerous one-two punch in Bell and DeAngelo Williams, leaving the Jets’ defensive line with their hands full for this Sunday. Gang Green’s secondary continues to perform atrociously averaging 285 passing yards per game and a total of 26.2 points per game as well.

Pittsburgh’s offense is a fierce bunch that ranks in the top 13 in all offensive categories. 9th in points per game with 27, 10th in yards per game with 374.5, 12th in passing yards per game with 262.2, and 13th in rushing yards per game with 112.2.

New York’s offense struggled mightily against the Kansas City Chiefs defense during Week 3 in which Kansas City forced six total interceptions against Ryan Fitzpatrick. The following week, Roethlisberger and the Steelers completely torched the Chiefs’ defense through the air.

They immediately attacked their secondary with deep bombs in the first half, tacking on 22 points through the first 15 minutes of the game.

Pittsburgh would finish the game with a 43-14 victory. Roethlisberger recorded 300 yards on 27 attempts for five touchdowns.

Bell recorded 144 rushing yards on 18 carries and five receptions for 34 yards. Cornerback Darrelle Revis has also been a huge disappointment this season.

According to the Media Relations Department of the Jets, Revis is currently listed as questionable with a hamstring strain. That leaves Buster Skrine and Marcus Williams at the top of the depth chart if Revis does indeed miss Week 5.

Overall, the Jets defense and special teams is a must sit for Week 5. If their secondary couldn’t slow down Andy Dalton or an injured Russell Wilson, then they’re in for a rude awakening against a healthy Big Ben.

According to NFL.com, Gotham’s fantasy defense has scored a mere two points in two out of their four games this season. Don’t expect their defense to score much more than that against Pittsburgh this Sunday.
