Fantasy Football Start or Sit Week 1: WR Eric Decker

Heading into Fantasy Football Week 1 action, wide receiver Eric Decker of the New York Jets will once again shine despite not being in the spotlight.

When it comes to quality WR2 options in fantasy football this season, many don’t consider wide receiver Eric Decker among the popular options available. Many also believe last season with the New York Jets was a fluke year due to their easy schedule and the emergence of veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Last season, Decker totaled 1,027 receiving yards, 80 receptions, and 12 touchdowns. Decker was able to finally thrive in his No. 2/slot receiving role thanks to the Jets adding wide receiver Brandon Marshall into the mix.

Heading into his Week 1 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, Decker should once again prove his consistency in a similar role. Fitzpatrick, Marshall, and Decker will find each other in this matchup but it won’t be a walk in the park.

While the Jets face a very tough Bengals team ready to make an example out of them, expect to see Decker get some major attention in red zone formations. His ability to take the top off of defenses and also having Marshall see a lot of double teaming, will open up the field for him.

Fantasy owners should highly consider putting Decker in as their WR2 or even flex spot in their Week 1 lineup.

If Fitzpatrick picks up the momentum he established last season, Decker will undoubtedly enjoy some solid receptions in this season opener and make some nice plays.

Remember, Decker led the Jets’ wide receiving corps last season with touchdowns (12) and could be their main difference-maker in getting a big win in front of the home crowd on Sunday.

Decker has the speed and solid route-running skills to keep the Bengals’ defense guessing all game long. He’s a good start to have this week in fantasy lineups.

Overall, this should be a very good game for Decker since all eyes will be on teammate Marshall which will let him do what he did best last season in a supportive role. Expect a lot of receptions and at least a touchdown or two in Week 1.
