Falcons vs. Saints Week 3 Injury Report
Here is the official injury report for the Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints, ahead of the week 3 match-up.
In what is thus far the biggest game of the season, the Atlanta Falcons head to New Orleans for a Monday Night Football clash against the Saints. It’s well documented that this game is the 10th year anniversary of the Louisiana Superdome re-opening, following Hurricane Katrina.
Here is the injury report ahead of the explosive clash, for both the Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints.
Note: Because this game is taking place on Monday, as opposed to Sunday, Wednesday was an off day for both teams, Saturday (not Friday) represents the last day of the practice for the week, and there won’t be any injury designations (questionable, doubtful, out) until Saturday.
Key: DNP = Did Not Practice, LP = Limited Practice, FP = Full Practice
Atlanta Falcons:
De’Vondre Campbell (Ankle) – Thursday: DNP, Friday: DNP
Dwight Freeney (Non-Injury) – Thursday: DNP, Friday: FP
Ra’Shede Hageman (Illness) – Thursday: DNP, Friday: FP
Grady Jarrett (Elbow) – Thursday: LP, Friday: FP
Tyson Jackson (Heel) – Thursday: FP, Friday: FP
Justin Hardy (Shoulder) – Thursday: LP, Friday: LP
Julio Jones (Calf) – Thursday: DNP, Friday: DNP
Mohamed Sanu (Ankle) – Thursday: DNP, Friday: LP
Brooks Reed (Shoulder) – Thursday: LP, Friday: LP
Keanu Neal (Knee) – Thursday: LP, Friday: LP
Paul Worrilow (Groin) – Thursday: DNP, Friday: DNP
The big name on this list is, of course, Julio Jones. The star wide receiver not practicing on Friday would be a lot more worrisome if this was a Sunday afternoon game, but since it’s on Monday Night there’s no need for panic. Head Coach Dan Quinn said he expects Jones to be ready to go, barring any setbacks — expect a Saturday limited practice and a “questionable” designation for Julio this week.
Atlanta’s other two wide receivers, Mohamed Sanu and Justin Hardy, both appear on the report as well. However, due to the fact that they both managed a limited practice on Friday there isn’t much fear for either one’s status.
Paul Worrilow and De’Vondre Campbell look like they’ll both have to sit this one out — Worrilow will be out for 3-4 weeks with a groin injury, while Campbell’s ankle injury looks to be serious enough to cost him a second straight week.
In a bit of good news, rookie Keanu Neal looks to be on track to make his NFL debut on Monday. He will probably get the “questionable” tag, but logging in limited practices on both Thursday and Friday is a great sign.
New Orleans Saints:
Delvin Breaux (Fibula) – Thursday: DNP, Friday: DNP
Dannell Ellerbe (Quad) – Thursday: DNP, Friday: DNP
Willie Snead IV (Toe) – Thursday: DNP, Friday: DNP
Josh Hill (Knee) – Thursday: DNP, Friday: DNP
Terron Armstead (Knee) – Thursday: DNP, Friday: DNP
Tyeler Davison (Shoulder/Foot) – Thursday: DNP, Friday: DNP
Kenny Vaccaro (Ankle) – Thursday: DNP, Friday: DNP
Cameron Jordan (Knee) – Thursday: LP, Friday: LP
There is a lot going on in the Saints’ injury report, including five starters missing both days of practice so far.
Starting CB Delvin Breaux is going to be out with a broken fibula, and CB PJ Williams (another starter) was placed on IR due to a “severe concussion”. The hits would keep coming to New Orleans’ secondary if starting SS Kenny Vaccaro were to be ruled out.
Starting WR Willie Snead, starting LB Dannell Ellerbe, Kenny Vaccaro, and T Tyeler Davison didn’t participate, but were all present at Saints’ practice on Friday. Depending on their availability on Saturday, all are good bets to get the “questionable” designation.
Starting left tackle Terron Armstead, who would arguably be New Orleans’ biggest loss among this group of players, was not present at Saints’ practice on Friday. If he is ruled out, LG and former first round pick Andrus Peat would be the favorite to slot into the left tackle position.
If anyone in this group of players who had back to back DNPs misses practice again on Saturday, then the likelihood of that player suiting up on Monday will decrease substantially.
