It had to beat going to a smelly, old gym.

The Atlanta Falcons invited area students to a record-breaking phys ed class at the Georgia Dome today. With 2,288 schoolchildren completing a half-hour workout, the event in Atlanta goes down as the world’s largest virtual gym class, certified as a Guinness World Record.

Stephanie Blank, wife of Falcons owner Arthur Blank, told AtlantaFalcons.com: “The Atlanta Falcons are committed to making sure children in Atlanta and all over the country get excited about exercise. Our message is that it’s cool to exercise. It’s good for you. It’s fun. I think, over time, that people get the message that this is what we should be doing.”

Falcons players and cheerleaders and members of the military joined the kids on the Georgia Dome field, where they worked out to music pumping out of the stadium’s loudspeakers as they were led by an instructor telecast on the video boards. The session was shared at schools across the United States via a webcast.
