Falcons bowl to raise money for special-needs center
The Atlanta Falcons took some time away from the football field to hit the bowling alley. In a great story from Danielle Ryan of the Gwinnett Daily Post, multiple Falcons players bowled with local children to help raise money for a special-needs schooling program.
As Ryan explained, the event "raised thousands of dollars for Challenged Child and Friends, an early intervention center for children with special needs ranging from six months to six years in age. The center offers educational programs and therapy for children with all types of developmental disabilities, teaching them in the same classrooms as children without disabilities."
Names like Eric Weems, Sean Renfree and rookie Freddie Martino were a few names in attendance. One great story that Ryan spoke about was one with Weems and a young man by the name of Colton Heard.
"Heard, a typical student at the school, was initially intimidated by all of the noise and chaos until wide receiver Eric Weems asked him to be his bowling partner. The two walked hand in hand to go get bowling balls and Heard sat on Weems’ lap while they put his name into the computer."
You have to love stories like this one, and there's plenty of credit to be given to the Falcons for taking time to participate in an event for a great cause.
