The Eagles lost in an embarrassing fashion on Sunday, leaving many wondering if Doug Pederson is in too deep.

The Philadelphia Eagles are officially in an alarming tailspin. After starting 3-0, the team has gone 2-7 in its’ last nine games. It’s becoming increasingly difficult for the team to be competitive in games, which falls on coaching.

As the season progresses, it is up to the coaches to make the necessary adjustments to stay ahead of the competition. Doug Pederson and Jim Schwartz have not done so. This certainly is concerning when looking into the Eagles future. While Pederson is a first-time head coach, he has not displayed the necessary adjustments needed to win late in the season. The offense is predictable, and the defense can’t get off the field. The highly touted defensive line is grossly under-performing. The secondary looks lost and the team, as a whole, appears to be quickly becoming disinterested with what’s going on during game days.

Perhaps the worst part of all it is that the team is relying far too much on their rookie quarterback. Carson Wentz will be fine, but his struggles are a result of him trying to do too much. No one can blame him, though. The offensive line is inconsistent at best, and the run game is non-existent. Despite the run game struggling, Pederson needs to stay more committed to it early on in games. He simply cannot have his franchise quarterback throwing 60 passes in a game like he did on Sunday.

Going forward, Coach Pederson needs to be more disciplined with his playcalling. He needs to make the necessary adjustments in order to win. Most importantly, he needs to protect Wentz. Pederson simply cannot keep putting the rookie in unfavorable positions. He needs all the help he can get, and right now he’s receiving very little from both his teammates and his coaches. Expect Wentz to try his hardest regardless of the situation, but let’s hope for his sake he gets the help he needs.
