Eagles coach Doug Pederson admits not every player gave maximum effort in loss

One day after his the Philadelphia Eagles dropped to 5-7 on the year with a third consecutive loss Sunday, Doug Pederson admitted that not every player on the team gave maximum effort when pressed by a reporter.

Pederson, who has watched the Eagles lose seven of their last nine games after an impressive start to the season, initially stated in his press conference Monday that he didn’t see any “quit” in his players despite another ugly performance on the road - but when a reporter asked him if he could honestly stand by that statement, Pederson admitted that some players didn’t play hard.

“When you watch the tape, can you honestly say that every one of your players played hard?

Not everybody. Not everybody, and that’s the accountability that I talk about. You know, I hold coaches accountable for that, I hold myself accountable for that, because it all starts with me, and I pride myself each week to make sure the guys are ready to go.

But at the same time it comes down to… it’s a mentality by each individual player. This is a business where we have to be ready to go every single weekend.”

Pederson was also asked about his own job security, and he said that Eagles executives have assured him that his job is safe.

"From both [owner Jeffrey Lurie and GM Howie Roseman], it's been 100-percent support on everything. I meet with Jeffrey and Howie every week, and we discuss a lot of things and go over a lot of things, and every week it’s very positive.”
