Dolphins hire Vance Joseph as defensive coordinator

Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase made the first big addition to his coaching staff on Tuesday. The Dolphins have hired former Cincinnati Bengals defensive backs coach Vance Joseph as their new defensive coordinator. FOX Sports NFL insider Mike Garafolo confirmed the report.
Joseph has been a defensive backs coach in the NFL since 2006, spending the past two seasons with the Bengals. Prior to his stint in Cincinnati, Joseph held the same position with the Houston Texans for three seasons and the 49ers for five.
He's been a hot commodity in the NFL for a few years now, with the Dolphins giving him his first shot as a defensive coordinator. There was seemingly plenty of competition to hire the 43-year-old coach this offseason.
FOX Sports NFL insider Alex Marvez said that Joseph was interested in following Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson to the 49ers if he was hired as their head coach and offered Joseph the job.

It will be interesting to see how if the defensive improves under Joseph after having a rough 2015 season. Additionally, cornerback Brent Grimes has been discussed as a potential cap casualty despite being a key contributor for the Dolphins in the past. Joseph certainly has his work cut out for him.
