Devin Smith learning on the job

The New York Jets continued to overhaul their wide receiving corps this offseason when they drafted Devin Smith out of Ohio State in the 2015 NFL Draft. He will team up with Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker and Jeremy Kerley to upgrade a dismal passing game.

However, it seems as if Smith's learning curve is bigger than the Jets thought. Instead of perfecting one position, he had to adjust to learning every wide receiver position, which was a lot for him to take in during rookie minicamp and the Jets' OTAs.

"Devin struggled with that," wide receivers coach Karl Dorrell said. "He came in thinking, 'OK, I'm coming in from a great program, they're going to put me in one spot and play.' Well, you're wrong. You're going to play more than one spot, and you're going to do that on the practice field."

Jets fans shouldn't panic though as any rookie would struggle to learn all the information that is thrown at him.

"In college," Dorrell said, "when you haven't had that experience playing a lot of spots, to now you've been thrown in a new system and new terminology, and you're playing two or three of those spots instead of being just one."

Hopefully, Smith can provide some value as a deep threat in this offense, much like he did for the Buckeyes during his college career.
