After months of oddly virulent speculation, the Detroit Lions finally made the big reveal. Detroit will wear black jerseys with blue trim for the NFL’s Color Rush uniforms.

Yes, those are the official Detroit Lions Color Rush uniforms.
The moment many have been waiting for turns out to be an anticlimactic insult. Where some NFL teams got fresh and original new combinations, albeit many of the eyesore variety, the Detroit Lions Color Rush uniforms are eerily similar to the black-based jerseys last donned in the Matt Millen era a decade ago.
That’s right. Instead of something forward-looking and sleek, the Detroit Lions Color Rush reflects back on the worst era of one of the least successful professional sports franchises.
They could have opted for a silver base with black or Honolulu Blue trim. Some speculated the they would opt for the red worn in the early days of the franchise.
Nope. Instead of any of those better choices, the NFL and the Lions chose to honor the laughably inept teams of the early 2000’s.
I’ll admit to strongly disliking most of the color rush jerseys around the league.

By and large, they’re obnoxious and undesirable.
Early reactions on the Detroit Lions Color Rush is mixed but trends negatively.
Fortunately the Lions will not wear this reflection on darker times in 2016. The Color Rush gimmick is for Thursday Night Football games and the Lions do not appear on that schedule in 2016. The Thanksgiving game apparently does not count.
