Defense rests in the Aaron Hernandez trial

After just one day of testimony, the defense has rested in the Aaron Hernandez murder trial. It’s a bit shocking considering the prosecution’s case included 39 days of testimony and 131 witnesses.

Overall, the defense called just three witnesses.

This means that closing arguments are slated to start either Tuesday or Wednesday, which is an indication that the trial will go to the jury later this week.

Hernandez, 25, is accused of killing friend and former semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd back in June of 2013.

While the case is considered mostly circumstantial, experts believe the prosecution has conducted a good trial. If Hernandez is found guilty, he’s likely going to spend the rest of his natural life in prison.

Either way, the former New England Patriots tight end faces a second trial on double-murder charges stemming from an incident back in 2012 that saw Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado gunned down at a traffic light in Boston. That trial is slated to begin later this year.
