DeAngelo delivers again in return to Steelers starting lineup

Published Nov. 8, 2015 6:00 p.m. ET

Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams came through in a big way in his return to the starting lineup.

Williams, playing in place of the injured Le'Veon Bell, ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries in Sunday's 38-35 win over Oakland. Williams also added two receptions for 55 yards and a two-point conversion. His longest play of the day was a 53-yard run from the Steelers' own 10-yard line at the end of the third quarter, setting up Martavis Bryant's 14-yard touchdown catch.

Williams was thrust back into the starting lineup after Bell suffered a season-ending knee injury last week against the Bengals. Williams also started the first two games of the season while Bell served a two-game suspension, posting 204 yards and three touchdowns on 41 carries.

The 10-year veteran looks rejuvenated after a few injury-plagued seasons in Carolina. Meeting head coach Mike Tomlin's edict to lose weight this offseason is paying off in spades for Williams and the Steelers.

Williams now has 480 yards and five touchdowns this season, averaging 5.3 yards per carry.
