Dave Gettleman sounds off on Cam Newton's development

Cam Newton has a shiny new contract, a pretty talented offense around him and a general manager and coach who are fully backing him. What's not to be happy about, right? Right.

According to David Newton of ESPN, GM Dave Gettleman is an especially happy camper when it comes to Newton and how he's developed to this point in his career.

"I had a reporter come in my first year and he started banging on Cam. I said, 'Listen. How long have you been a sportswriter? How many articles did you write your first two years that you’re proud of?' I told him we all have to grow into our jobs. Everybody. You have to allow players to. You’re not going to have instant gratification with players, but they’re going to get better as long as they put in the time ... which our guys go." Gettleman told ESPN.

"He's developing at a solid rate. We’re excited about having him. He just needs to continue to hone his game."

Newton has the type of potential that has fans drooling. On top of that, he's an exciting player to watch, but most importantly, he's a proven winner. Newton has led the Panthers to back-to-back NFC South titles. Could we be looking at a three-peat? It's definitely more than possible.
