Spanning the virtual globe to bring you the latest news about the Cleveland Browns and the NFL – these are your Daily Dawg Tags for Friday, Sept. 23.

The Cleveland Browns are indeed playing a game this Sunday, which may have been forgotten during the constant talk of injuries to players both young and old.

The Browns are set to take on the Miami Dolphins, led by Cody Kessler at quarterback. It is unfair to assume he will have a bad performance Sunday, but any success will come as a surprise. This is not a direct reflection of Kessler’s abilities, but rather the situation in which he is making his NFL debut.

He will be without both Corey Coleman and Josh Gordon, the team’s top two receivers, while John Greco will be filling in at center for the injured Cameron Erving. Those absences, along with being given one week to prepare as the starter, puts Kessler at a great disadvantage heading into Sunday’s game.

Kessler may surprise us all, so while we maintain some sense of optimism let’s take a look at the news surrounding the Browns and the rest of the NFL in today’s edition of the Daily Dawg Tags.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Corey Coleman is expected to miss at least a month after breaking his hand during practice on Wednesday. While that is obviously not great news, the silver lining is that the Browns top draft choice will not require surgery at this time and is expected to return for the second half of the season, according to the team.

NFL plans to play Vikings-Panthers in Charlotte (NFL.com)

The NFL issued a statement Thursday stating the league is planning to play Sunday’s game between the Carolina Panthers and the Minnesota Vikings in Charlotte, North Carolina, as scheduled. “We are planning to play the game as scheduled on Sunday,” the league said. “We are monitoring events in Charlotte and have been in communication with local officials and authorities, and both the Carolina Panthers and the Minnesota Vikings.”
