Cowboys had Ezekiel Elliott working on kickoff returns at minicamp

The Dallas Cowboys got some bad news on the first day of mandatory minicamp, revealing that running back Darren McFadden suffered a broken elbow.

The news put a brighter spotlight on the Cowboys' No. 4 overall pick, Ezekiel Elliott, who is expected to be Dallas' running back of the future. But it looks like the Cowboys were experimenting with their prize rookie Tuesday, having him working on returning kickoffs.

Elliott was a star running back at Ohio State, where he rushed for more than 1,800 yards each of his final two years in college. But despite those gaudy numbers on the ground, Elliott had only one kick return during his three years with the Buckeyes.

Despite giving him reps at returner Tuesday, the Cowboys are unlikely to have Elliott risk injury at that position once the regular season begins.
