Cowboys continue to prove naysayers wrong; defeat Ravens 27-17

Despite the Baltimore Ravens touted defense, the Dallas Cowboys were able to defeat them for the first time in franchise history, 27-17.
All week, the Baltimore Ravens were touted as the Dallas Cowboys biggest threat of the season. They joined in a long list of biggest threats that previously included the Green Bay Packers, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Philadelphia Eagles. All of whom proved to be more pretenders than actual contenders. And the Ravens were no different.
The Cowboys extended their winning streak to nine games, defeating the Ravens 27-17 on Sunday. And Dallas officially swept the entire AFC North division following the victory.
The Ravens were able to limit the NFL’s leading rusher, Cowboys rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott to only 97 yards on the ground on 25 carries. That average of 3.9 yards per carry was his lowest since Week One.
But Baltimore’s defense could do little to stop rookie quarterback Dak Prescott, who completed 27 of his 36 passes for 301 yards and three scores. It was only Prescott’s second time to throw over the 300-yard mark in his young career. And it was Dak’s eighth game this season without an interception.
All-Pro wide receiver Dez Bryant had his best game this season against the Ravens secondary, catching six receptions for 80 yards and splashing two touchdowns. Slot receiver Cole Beasley had five catches for 59 yards and a score as well. Tight end Jason Witten also had five receptions for 37 yards in the win.
Defensively, the Cowboys did just enough to allow their offense to win this slugfest. Once again, free safety Byron Jones led the team in tackles with a combined eight. Strong safety J.J. Wilcox threw in seven tackles of his own. And defensive end jack Crawford had the Cowboys lone sack of the game.
It will be a quick four-day turnaround for the now 9-1 Dallas Cowboys, as they’ll face their NFC East foes the 5-3-1 Washington Redskins at AT&T Stadium on Thanksgiving Day, November 24th. Kick-off should be around 3:30pm CST on Turkey Day!
