Councilwoman calls for LA stadium talks with AEG

Published Jan. 7, 2011 12:56 a.m. ET

A Los Angeles councilwoman is calling on officials to begin discussions with the developers who have publicly proposed building an NFL stadium in her district.

Jan Perry's motion presented Wednesday to the council's Trade, Commerce and Tourism Committee represents the city's first open attempt to directly engage sports and entertainment firm AEG on its proposal to replace part of the city's convention center complex with a stadium.

Perry says in the motion that AEG's plan could help the city, but that the firm must submit an environmental study of the project as soon as possible so its benefits can be balanced against potential risks.

She's also asking for city legal staff to engage AEG in formal discussions about the proposal.
