Colts quarterback Hasselbeck hurt again in loss to Jaguars
For the second week in a row, Indianapolis quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was forced to leave after being hurt, when a rib injury forced his exit from Sunday's 51-16 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Hasselbeck left the game in the fourth quarterafter being shoved out of bounds by Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith and was replaced by backup Charlie Whitehurst. It was the second time Sunday that Hasselbeck was forced from the game. He missed time in the third quarter after being hit on completion to wide receiver T.Y. Hilton, but was able to return.
The 17-year veteran also left last week's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers after hurting his ribs and neck, but was healthy enough to practice leading up to the Jacksonville game and play Sunday.
"He took a couple good shots there," Colts coach head Chuck Pagano said following the loss, per ESPN's Mike Wells. "Still basically the ribs that he's dealing with. We'll know more (Monday)."
Hasselbeck's injury status clouds the Colts' quarterback picture heading into next week's pivotal game against the Houston Texans.
Colts quarterback Andrew Luck missed his fourth consecutive game Sunday with a lacerated kidney, and while he's resumed throwing, he has yet to return to practice.
If neither Luck nor Hasselbeck are able to play, the Colts will start Charlie Whitehurst against the Texans with sole possession of first place in the AFC South on the line.
White finished 2-of-8 for eight yards and an interception against the Jaguars in relief of Hasselbeck.
