The Indianapolis Colts announced on Wednesday that the team claimed outside linebacker Lavar Edwards off waivers from the Carolina Panthers and waived cornerback Darryl Morris in a corresponding roster move.

Originally a 5th round pick of the Tennessee Titans in the 2013 NFL Draft, the 6’4″, 275 pound outside linebacker has also spent time with the Dallas Cowboys (twice), Oakland Raiders, Chicago Bears, and Buffalo Bills before joining the Colts.

The 26 year old outside linebacker has 11 career tackles and a sack respectively in 17 games (1 start). Edwards recorded 7 tackles in 5 games for the Panthers this season prior to his release this past Tuesday.

He figures to add extra depth to the Colts outside linebacker group, which recently lost veteran Trent Cole to injured reserve and may very well be without Curt Maggitt–who’s officially ‘week-to-week’ with an ankle injury.

To free up a roster spot, the Colts parted ways with 4th-year veteran, Darryl Morris, who was signed just before the start of the season due to a string of significant injuries. The 5’10”, 188 pound cornerback appeared in all 6 games (1 start) for the Colts, recording 16 tackles and a pass defensed.

It’s worth noting that cornerback Patrick Robinson (hip) was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, having missed Sunday night’s game. Meanwhile, Darius Butler (calf & hamstring) did not practice.
