Colt McCoy posts perfect passer rating in relief of RG3

When Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III left last night's preseason game against the Detroit Lions with a concussion, it was Colt McCoy who entered the game in his place. Although McCoy only played 26 snaps in relief, he was technically perfect behind the same offensive line that made Griffin look like a rookie.

McCoy completed 5-of-6 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown. McCoy moved the ball efficiently on all three of his drives. Two of his three drives ended in a touchdown and the other ended when McCoy fumbled inside the opponent's five-yard line. McCoy's longest pass of the day was a short pass left to tight end Je'Ron Hamm.

McCoy will continue to do battle with Kirk Cousins for the Redskins' backup quarterback spot. Cousins competed and had another strong start after entering the game for McCoy in the third quarter. Griffin is currently dealing with a concussion and a stinger, but he is expected to retain his starting spot when healthy.
