Cleanup approved at new Carson stadium site for Chargers, Raiders

A motion to clean up the future site of Carson, Calif. two-team football stadium should be funded by August.
The Carson City Council on Tuesday night approved the sale of $50.5 million in bonds to finish stalled environmental work on the former Cal Compact landfill along the 405 freeway, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders picked Carson to house a shared stadium in February. The cleanup deal is one hurdle in a long line of hurdles that need to be cleared before either team can formally request the NFL to relocate.
A Chargers-owned subsidiary is expected to take control of the property from real estate firm Starwood Capital. A Chargers attorney believes that deal, which is in escrow, should also close soon.
