Chip not worried about Parkey despite shaky preseason opener

Published Aug. 17, 2015 10:36 p.m. ET

Sunday's preseason opener was the kind of game that Philadelphia Eagles kicker wishes he could have back. After a dominant 2014 regular season, Parkey had a rocky 2015 preseason opener. Parkey missed a field goal and an extra point against the Colts on Sunday.

Parkey's field goal attempt was from 34-yards out and the extra point came from a longer distance according to the NFL's new extra point rule. In addition to these two misses, Parkey barely connected on a 48-yard attempt later in the game.

Despite the inconsistent start to his 2015 campaign, Eagles head coach Chip Kelly is not worried at all about his 2014 Pro Bowl kicker.

“I mean, he was an all-Pro Bowl kicker last year," Kelly said when asked if he was worried about Parkey's performance, per Geoff Mosher of CSN Philly. In his first exhibition game he missed an extra point and a field goal. He hit three from 40, too. I wouldn’t push the panic button right now.”

In 2014, Parkey made the Pro Bowl after sinking 32-of-36 field goal attempts. He also knocked in four kicks of 50-plus yards. One rocky preseason game isn't going to cause the Eagles to move on.
