Chip Kelly explains DeMarco Murray absence at Monday's practice

Published Aug. 4, 2015 4:55 p.m. ET

When DeMarco Murray was held out of Monday's practice, the reasons for his absence were a mystery to everyone -- Murray included. On Tuesday, head coach Chip Kelly explained that the team checks players’ hydration levels and they didn’t want to put Murray on the field because they felt there was an increased chance of further problems.

"It was a training staff decision,” Kelly said, per True Jersey. “Especially, with the way the weather has been, we didn’t want to take any chances. It’s not just for [Murray], we treat every player on a daily basis.”

If Murray has learned anything in his short time with the Eagles, it's that you don't make defying Kelly's decisions a habit. Murray got right back to work on Tuesday, and a missed practice early on in training camp is a non-story going forward.
