Chiefs use franchise tag on Comeback Player of the Year Eric Berry

The Kansas City Chiefs will use the franchise tag to retain All-Pro safety Eric Berry, according to multiple reports.
The 2015 Comeback Player of the Year worked his way back from Hodgkin's lymphoma last season, making an impressive 61 tackles, 10 pass defections and two interceptions. He was also voted to his fourth Pro Bowl.
The Chiefs are expected to try to work out a long-term deal with the shutdown corner before Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline.
If the two sides can't reach an agreement on a new deal, Berry will earn $10.806 million in 2016 under the non-exclusive tag. However, other teams would be allowed to sign Berry to a tender, which KC would have the option to match. If another offer is made and the Chiefs choose not to match it, the team that signs Berry would lose two first-round draft picks.
