Chiefs underdogs going into Oakland

The Kansas City Chiefs are slight underdogs in their Week 6 matchup against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday afternoon.

Kansas City is getting some respect despite its rancid showing the last time it played. The Chiefs were seen being blown out 43-14 by the Pittsburgh Steelers, but with an open week to get refreshed, Vegas sees the Chiefs as only a 1.5-point underdog in Oakland.

Considering the home team is always given three points by the oddsmakers, this line says that Kansas City better on a neutral field and a considerable favorite at Arrowhead. The Raiders are 4-1, but I can certainly understand the logic here.

Oakland has won four games and none of them in a very convincing fashion. This is not to say the Raiders aren’t a quality opponent, they are, but there are some real questions that still need to be answered. To this point, Oakland has a +5 point differential in five games. At some point, the worm turns and you begin to lose some close games.

If the Chiefs can win this game, they have to feel very good about the future. Kansas City would be 3-2 with the hardest part of their schedule behind them, along with a 2-0 record within the AFC West. In addition, their next three games would see home games with the New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars, and a trip to play the Indianapolis Colts. There is a very good chance that with a victory this Sunday, the Chiefs would be significant favorites in all those games.
