Chiefs QB Alex Smith will miss Sunday's game after taking two hits to the head

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith left Sunday’s win against the Colts two times after taking two shots to the head, and even though he was never diagnosed with a concussion, he’ll be replaced by backup Nick Foles this weekend against the Jaguars.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid announced Wednesday that Smith won’t even be available as a backup.

Smith was hit two times while beginning to slide. He missed most of the first half after cutting his ear on the first series, then he was knocked from the game again in the third quarter.

Foles filled in well, completing 16 of 22 passes for 223 yards with one touchdown and zero interceptions. Smith – who has a 35-18 record as a starter since joining the Chiefs in 2013 – went 9-of-18 for 127 yards and a touchdown.
