Chiefs make changes on defense

Published Aug. 14, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

The Kansas City Chiefs waived linebacker Chad Kilgore and signed cornerback Kennard Cox prior to their final practice Wednesday on the campus of Missouri Western State University.

Kilgore, who played at nearby Northwest Missouri State, spent time in training camp with the Raiders last season. He played high school football in Excelsior Springs, Mo.

A longshot to make the team, he was waived to clear space for Cox, who has played 29 games in four NFL seasons spent with Jacksonville and Seattle. The former seventh-round pick has also spent time with the Bills and Packers earlier in his career.

The Chiefs play their second preseason game Friday night at Arrowhead Stadium. They resume training camp at their own practice facility next week.
