Kansas City Chiefs vs. Atlanta Falcons

The Kansas City Chiefs (8-3) are fresh off a stunning last second overtime victory on Sunday Night Football against the Denver Broncos. Their big win puts them one-game out of first place in the AFC West, but in the driver seat for the top wild card spot in their conference. In NFL Week 13, they go on the road to face the Atlanta Falcons (7-4) at the Georgia Dome.

After a Week 11 bye, the Falcons beat up on the Arizona Cardinals in a 38-19 game. This contest will show which team has more momentum. The one coming off a close win against a good team or the one who thoroughly beat a team with a losing record.

Both teams remain very much alive in the playoff hunt. But which will emerge out of this big matchup on Sunday?

Here are the keys to victory for each team.

Kansas City Keys To Victory

Keep attacking the passer: Although his stats may not have reflected it, Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian spent much of the night under pressure against the Chiefs. They need to have that same mentality in this game. Matt Ryan is a better quarterback than Siemian, but he isn’t as mobile to escape the rush as often.

Control the clock: Atlanta is a great offensive football team, but their defense is suspect. If Kansas City gets their running game going and can convert some third downs to extend drives to keep Ryan and company on the bench that would be highly beneficial.

Keep the running backs in check: Everyone knows Falcons receiver Julio Jones is incredible. What they often forget is that the team can beat you just as quickly with their running backs Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman. The Chiefs need to make sure they don’t forget to keep tabs on these guys.

Protect Matt Ryan: With how tough of a defensive game the Chiefs played last week, the Falcons need to be on point with pass protection. Justin Houston and Dee Ford will be coming for Ryan. He needs to get the ball out quick, but the line needs to do their part as well.

Tackle Tyreek HillWide receiver Tyreek Hill had nine receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown. He had one rush for three yards and a touchdown. He also had a kickoff return for 86 yards — and yes, a touchdown. The Falcons cannot let this guy go off like he did against Denver. Someone has to bring him to the ground in this one.

Stick with Travis KelceHill wasn’t the only star to shine for KC on offense. Tight end Travis Kelce also was spectacular with eight receptions for 101 yards. He’s one of the better tight ends in the game and he can beat you if you let him. They simply can’t let him.

    Odds

    Point Spread: Atlanta -4
    Moneyline: Kansas City +175 , Atlanta -210
    Over/Under: 49

    Prediction

This has the feeling of a statement game for the Atlanta Falcons. The Chiefs are looking like a solid top-five team following their big win and the Falcons still have the stigma of a team that crumbles. Knocking off a rising team like the Chiefs will go a long way towards changing that perception. It also helps them keep the surging Tampa Bay Buccaneers at a safe distance in the standings.

Pick: Kansas City Chiefs: 23, Atlanta Falcons: 27
