Chargers take Joey Bosa at No. 3 to address their defensive line

With the first two picks going according to plan, the San Diego Chargers' choice was the real wild card Thursday night. And the Chargers opted to go with former Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa.
“I’m going to give everything, every day," Bosa said after being picked. “Let’s go win some games! I couldn’t be happier right now. It’s a dream come true.”
It was the first surprise of the night after the Rams took Jared Goff with the first pick and the Eagles selected Carson Wentz with the No. 2 pick.
“Since September he’s been the highest-rated guy on our board,” Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said. “It just always came back to Joey.”
Bosa had an off year in 2015, finishing with five sacks. The two-time All-American defensive end had 13 1/2 sacks as a sophomore, earning the Big Ten Defensive Player of Year honors.
Many thought Bosa’s draft stock would slip after he posted a time of 4.86 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. But despite the less-than-stellar time and his dip in 2015, the Chargers didn't hesitate.
Bosa was the first Ohio State player off the board Thursday. Former Buckeyes running back Ezekiel Elliott was selected with the fourth pick by the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants took defensive back Eli Apple with the 10th pick. It's the first time since 2010 (Oklahoma) that three players from the same school were taken in the top 10.
The Chargers ranked 24th in sacks last year, finishing with 32 and 20th in yards allowed, giving up 361.9 a game in 2015. San Diego went 4-12 last season and was winless in the AFC West.
