Chargers' Stuckey still honored by 2014 Pro Bowl nod

It's rare to earn a trip to the Pro Bowl.

It's even rarer to earn that trip as a special teams player. Only two such players go -- which is why 2014 will remain a special year for Darrell Stuckey, the Chargers' ace.

“It means a lot because it is tough to make, especially for a special teamer because there are only two of them,” Stuckey told the team's official website. It is one of those things where I know it is hard as a special teamer, because it is not an ESPN Top 10 position, and it is not a fantasy football draftable position."

But Stuckey still stood out. He notched 17 tackles last season with added a blocked field goal and a fumble recovery.

Teams started approaching Stuckey as they would a game-changing wide receiver. They double-teamed (and sometimes even triple-teamed) him on punt returns.

But Pro Bowl receivers still break through that extra attention. Stuckey did the same as a Pro Bowl-caliber special teams ace.

"Once you make the Pro Bowl, you always want to know that you are still progressing to get better and better and better each day," he said. "That becomes the standard."
