Chargers might've added the old Stevie Johnson at receiver
Stevie Johnson likes to call his new receiving corps "The Aliens."
He's backed it up by playing several different positions at an otherworldly level this preseason.
“You need to be versatile in order to be effective in this type of offense,” the veteran receiver told Ricky Henne of Chargers.com. “They will need me to do a lot, and I have to be able to do it. This is not your regular, typical offense."
Johnson isn't your typical receiver. He's tough enough to bash with big corners out wide, but after an offseason of training, he's quick enough to fake shiftier cornerbacks from the slot.
He did a little of both on a four-catch, 61-yard night against the Seahawks. Johnson even threw in a devastating stiff-arm for good measure.
Head coach Mike McCoy noticed Johnson at work. Even in defeat, he started his postgame press conference with a tip of the hat for his top "alien."
“(It was great) seeing guys like Stevie Johnson step up today and get more opportunities," McCoy said. "That’s what we brought him here for."
